Spotlight on the Truck Efficiency Run Format – Breaking Down the Challenge

In truck racing, performance is everything – but performance doesn’t always mean pushing flat-out.
The Truck Efficiency Run powered by Krone puts a unique spotlight on one of the most critical elements of real-world trucking: fuel efficiency. This challenge flips the script compared to the high-adrenaline world of truck racing, rewarding precision, consistency, and smart driving over sheer speed.

The Truck Efficiency Run takes place in race-like conditions, but the aim is very different: to complete a lap of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife combined with the Grand Prix circuit, achieving the optimal average speed with the most efficient fuel consumption.

The event is governed by standard road traffic regulations (StVO) and drivers need to adhere to strict rules: the maximum permitted speed is 90 km/h across the entire track, with additional lower limits in certain sections for safety reasons. Maintaining speed while minimising fuel consumption demands more than just a light foot on the throttle. Drivers must read the track like a strategist, taking advantage of momentum, minimising braking, and mastering smooth gear changes. Every acceleration, every cornering decision, and every second counts.

The results are based on a Performance Index, which combines two key factors:

• Efficiency: The actual consumption is measured smartly: it is compared and normalised against the official manufacturer specifications for each individual truck (CoC). No absolute consumption values are published – only each driver’s personal Performance Index counts.

• Consistency: Drivers who maintain a steady speed earn valuable points.

More than a race, the Truck Efficiency Run is a test of strategy and precision and a reminder that in both transport and competition, efficiency is the ultimate edge.
